Hello and welcome to the match preview of the first T20 International between India and South Africa in Arun Jaitley Stadium, which will be played on 9th June.
India last played their T20 International game against Sri Lanka in late February and even went on to win the series by 3-0. However, due to the recently concluded IPL, the players have enough match practice and will not feel likeness of it. Fastly, India is on the verse of making the world record. They are on the invincible run of 12 wins and will want to take the tally to 13 wins and create the world record. In order to do this, they will have to win the first T20I against South Africa. The batting will depend on captain KL Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kl Rahul is in sublime form and he will want to continue this. The middle order looks impressive in the form of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. Hardik and Dinesh have performed really well in this IPL season and the management will want the same from Hardik in the series. Bhubaneswar and Harshal will take care of the fast bowling department. The spin bowling unit looks deadly in the form of returning pair”Kul-Cha” and they can prove to be the x-factor for the team. Arshdeep and Umran Malik will be on the radar as well.
South Africa last played a T20 International match in the T20 world cup in Dubai which was played in October-November. However, that World Cup was not good for them as they were eliminated in the league stage. South Africa will be playing their first T20 International in around 8 months and they will be willing to continue their stupendous record in India and clinch the series. The batting onus for South Africa will be on the capable shoulders of DeKock and Markram who were in sublime form in the recently concluded Tata IPL. DeKock was even the third highest run-getter of the league and South Africa will be hoping for him the same in the series. The finishing department will be on the shoulders of “Killer Miller” who has been renowned for his game and performed seriously well in the IPL and even went to win the cup as well. Their fast bowling unit looks lethal in the form of Jansen, Nortje, and Rabada. Rabada was the highest wicket taking fast bowler in the IPL and he can prove to be the x-factor for the team. The spin attack will be in the hands of some Shamsi and Maharaj. Shamsi is the highest ranked t20 bowler right now and the team will be dependent on him on the turning tracks of India.
