Match Preview: (By-Vishnu)
Hello and welcome to the match preview of the 1st T20 International between Sri Lanka and Australia which will be played in R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 7th June.
Sri Lanka played their last T20 International back in February. They lost the series 3-0 against India. They will be looking to give a better performance on their home soil and clinch the series. The batting onus will be on the likes of Nissanka and Mendis. Rajapaksa was in great touch in the recently concluded Tata IPL and he will be the player to watch out for. The captain, Shanaka will also be looking to continue his good form. Hasaranga who was also the second-highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded IPL will be the x-factor for the Lankans. Chameera and Theekshana will be their ace bowlers and the team will depend on them in the powerplay overs. The ‘young Malinga’ Pathirana will be looking to make his mark in his first major series.
Australia played their last T20 International in early April this year. In their last subcontinent assignment, they beat Pakistan by 1-0 in the one match T20 International series. The batting department will be in the capable hands of the captain, Finch, and the veteran, Warner who was in sublime form in India. The middle-order looks solid in the form of Marsh, Maxwell, and Stoinis. They have a deadly fast-attack comprising Starc and Hazlewood but they will surely miss the services of Adam Zampa on this turning track.
